Dear ChristNet Coordinators,
We appreciate your support and patience this summer and fall as the ChristNet Board has navigated the challenges and changes that COVID 19 has presented. We want to update you on the shelter plans for this season.
As you know, we had hoped to find a stationary location in which we could house the nighttime guests and our churches could continue to provide dinner, interaction and loving care for our guests. It became apparent that the financial commitment, hiring a nighttime manager, rent and utilities, etc. was more than we could feasibly manage.
Wayne Metro (Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency) has received a CARES government grant and will provide motel housing for our guests this season. We are working diligently with their staff to make this a successful solution for the needs of our guests. Our Daytime Center at Church of the Nazarene will remain open to serve daily needs including breakfast and lunch, Bible Study, referrals, computer usage and other services. Guest numbers throughout the day will be limited to meet CDC guidelines.
This motel housing model will allow for the social distancing necessary during the pandemic and fulfill our mission of providing safe, warm shelter for our guests. Sadly, this does not allow our churches to have personal contact with the guests at this time. However, there is an opportunity for your church to remain involved by providing evening meals. Meals could be prepared during your regular host week, on any weekend/day or possibly a Holiday meal. These will be scheduled in advance. Contact Linda Dickman – 734 673-2444, if you would like more information and/or to sign up.
Thank you for your continued support and to the many churches and individuals who graciously provided and continue to provide lunches at the daytime center.
Please keep our homeless guests in your prayers!
